Welcome

Regenerative engineering, we feel represents a new multidisciplinary way to think about the formation of complex tissues. It has a focus on helping millions of patients regain mobility and strength by regenerating tissue and ultimately, complex tissue, limbs and organs. It can be described as the next generation of tissue regeneration because it combines the established principles of tissue engineering with morphogenesis, stem cell technology and the understanding of material cues for cellular growth and transformation.

The new Institute for Regenerative Engineering (IRE) at UConn Health is at the forefront of this work.

Our IRE brings together nationally-recognized experts from the fields of orthopaedics and musculoskeletal health; reconstructive sciences; biomedical engineering; craniofacial sciences; stem cell technologies and more. Together, we are supporting a range of basic and translational research initiatives and constantly refining the curriculum for graduate and undergraduate students within UConn Health and the University. We are committed to mentoring aspiring researchers, and staying on top of the latest developments in our fields.

The synergies are strong and our commitment is exceptional.

I am extremely proud to be leading the new center and working closely with a talented and forward-thinking cadre of scientists. This website was designed to introduce you to the people and work that is advancing regenerative engineering at UConn Health, the University of Connecticut and beyond. We hope you find it useful and informative.

Sincerely,

Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D.
